    The game of Tennis originated in France in the 12th Century, but the game of Real Tennis is very different from the modern game. King Henry VIII built the oldest Real Tennis court at Hampton Court Palace in 1530. The Lawn Tennis Association was formed in 1888, and the laws have only changed in detail since. The Davis Cup was inaugurated in 1900, originally between Britain and America. Today tennis is a world-class competitive sport captivating millions of fans and players all around the world.

The Wimbledon Championships was one of the most significant developments in the history of tennis. The first Wimbledon champion was William Renshaw who won the championship 8 times between 1881 and 1889 - a record that remains unbeaten today. In 1909 the All England Club adopted the purple and green colours that are still used today. The history of tennis in modern times can easily be traced by viewing the great champions of Wimbledon - Laver, Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Sampras, Court, King, Evert, Navratilova and Hingis.

The Wimbledon Championship is without question the greatest tennis tournament in the world. Indeed it is much more than a tennis tournament, it is a unique sporting event. Wimbledon is the championship that players cherish the most. This is also true from the perspective of the spectators. There is no doubt that the atmosphere inside the All England Club is very special indeed, and Wimbledon remains a firm favourite for corporate entertaining.
