Valentino Rossi will hope to reign in Spain when he begins the defence of his MotoGP world title in Jerez in April. The 2005 calendar has been extended to 17 races with the elite class of motorcycling travelling to China for the first time and returning to the United States after an 11 year absence.

Yamaha's Valentino Rossi has defied the odds by becoming only the second rider in MotoGP history to win back-to-back titles with different manufacturers, but while Eddie Lawson moved from Yamaha to the stronger Honda in 1988, Rossi managed the opposite, turning the inferior M1 into a RCV beater.
